MUSIC THROUGH DRAWING WORKSHOP
Jumpstarting Composing, Songwriting, and Improvising
Teaching Artist: Zach Sheets
An inspirational workshop for students ages 10-14!
In this creatively-oriented workshop, students will learn about “big-picture” musical topics like form, phrasing, and melody writing. Through drawing, sketching, movement, and other interactive activities, they will discover and develop new ways of thinking about music-making. Throughout class, students will listen to music and explore various means of creative response; then, they’ll learn to use these new frameworks in reverse to engage with the craftsmanship of writing music.
These activities are designed as a gateway to think about composing, songwriting, and improvising, independent of previous training in music theory. Ability to read music recommended but not required; however, creativity and free thinking are a must! Suggested age range is 10-14.
Saturday, March 25 | 2-3:30pm
