Symphony in the Schools
Chamber Music in the Schools: Our newest program strives to bring the talented musicians of the Cape Symphony into Cape Cod schools so that students can hear their instruments up close and learn about the incredible art of chamber music. Like our Jazz in the Schools program, Symphony in the Schools exposes young ears to an entire genre of music that they likely have never had the opportunity to hear. Chamber music groups include ensembles like String Quartets, Brass Quintets, Woodwind Quintets, various Percussion Ensembles, and Mixed Instrument Ensembles. All of these groups have one thing in common though: no conductor! They must rehearse and perform challenging music as a team and with that comes the development of vital collaborative skills that can be applied to everything from larger musical ensembles to non-musical careers in any profession.
Jung-Ho in the Schools: In addition to symphony musicians visiting schools, we are also very fortunate to have an Artistic Director and Conductor who enjoys working with Cape Cod high school band, orchestra, and choral programs. Jung-Ho Pak is a gifted leader and educator and enjoys visiting these programs to work with both the ensemble and its conductor. This gives students an important opportunity to observe their own teacher as an attentive student and learn a fundamental truth: that, as musicians, we never stop learning!
Cape Youth Orchestra in the Schools: Our goal is to inspire talented young musicians to find every opportunity to make great music. CYO is a place for students to connect with professional musicians as well as like-minded student musicians who strive for excellence. By introducing your students to our new CYO conductor, Mark Miller, and our talented faculty, we potentially open the door to a pathway in music that may not have been fully realized.
This visit can also serve as an audition opportunity for those unable to attend the Sept. 7th audition (Sign Up here!).
Guest Artists Masterclasses: The Cape Symphony and Conservatory often have special guest artists who not only are spectacular performers but dedicated educators. These events will be announced to music programs across Cape Cod and will give talented students an opportunity to play for and learn from world-renowned soloists. We will reach out to directors when these events occur, but please check here for updates from time-to-time.
